Cyclocross Season is Coming!

The start of cyclocross racing is right around the corner. To get ready for the season, check out the new preseason clinic that our own Rob Pulcipher is coordinating, the CXpreX. Details are on the event website and Facebook, but it's designed to help new and experienced riders learn or improve their CX skills and get in some pre-season intensity, too.

To find out about cyclocross races in the area, check out these sources of race info:

Early Season Results

Will Cawthorn, 5th in Cat. 4
 at West Branch RR
It's been a busy start to the racing season. As June begins we have a few AAVC riders in the top spots of the Michigan Challenge Series for their categories:

Masters 55+
1. Larry Bohnsack
2. John Shedlock

Cat 4
3. Will Cawthorn

In addition, AAVC is 3rd in the team standings and a number riders have collected points in the series with results in the top 15 at the Willow Time Trial, Cone-Azalia, Tour of Frankenmuth, and West Branch.

Great job so far, and we're looking to see more AAVC riders at the Tour de Mont Pleasant races this weekend!

Ann Arbor Spring Training Series BBQ

There's a good chance we'll have another dry day tomorrow (4/17/11) for the last Ann Arbor STS race. To celebrate the end of the training races and beginning of the "real" racing (Michigan Challenge Race Series) that starts in two weeks, we'll be cooking out! The grilling will start about the time "A" race starts, roughly 11:30. We'll have brats, burgers, chips and drinks. So stop by, race (or just watch), bring your own fruits, veggies, or other sides you want, and enjoy the day. Pass the word!

Full schedule, weekly results, and some race videos are available on the race website.

Ann Arbor Spring Training Series, weeks 1 & 2

The weather has been cold for the first two week of the Ann Arbor Spring Training Series (STS), but it's stayed dry and there's been some great early season racing.

Thanks A TON to all the people helping with race registration, set up, corner marshaling, and much more! Everything is going smoothly thanks to the assistance of many individuals. Just another two weeks to go.

Hana Berkooz grabbed the first win for an AAVC member at the Ann Arbor STS so far in the women's race this past weekend. Stephen Doll has the highest placing in the men's races with a 2nd in the C race this past weekend.  Check out the full results from the first two weeks, overall points standings for the series, and even some finish line videos from week 1 and week 2.

Registration open for Susan G. Komen Ride for the Cure, Aug. 6, 2011

A note from the Susan G. Komen Ride for the Cure® organizers....
Hello Michigan Cyclists!
I'm proud to announce that Registration is OPEN for the 2011 Susan G. Komen Ride for the Cure® - yes that's right, finally a cycling event! Join us to ride or volunteer August 6, 2011 in Ann Arbor....
http://www.komenmidmichigan.org/get-involved/komen-activities.
This is our second year organizing the Ride and we are still excited by the sucess of last year's event. Beautiful 73 degrees, clear skies, and hundreds of riders and volunteers, survivors and family all together made it a fantastic day. The event was designed to make a BIG, BOLD impact and it exceeded expectations, raising almost $100,000 in donations, sponsorships and registration fees.
The dollars raised are used to fund crucial screening, education, and survivorship programs to women who would not otherwise have access to these programs. 75% stays locally in Michigan towns! It is the passion and commitment of our Riders, volunteers, community partners and sponsors that allow us to fund these live saving programs.
This year's event will again feature three Ride lengths (30, 60, and 100 miles) starting and ending in scenic Ann Arbor. It's a fully supported ride that is fun, challenging and rewarding for novices and experienced riders alike. Medical and mechanical support as well as entertainment, snacks and lunch are provided during the day, so you can sit back and enjoy the ride.
Registered Riders commit to raise at least $500 to benefit the Mid-Michigan Affiliate of Susan G. Komen for the Cure®.  All Riders will be provided easy online fundraising tools as well as a personal donation page on the Komen website to assist with their fundraising efforts. Each rider who meets or surpasses the $500 goal will get a custom ride jersey in time to wear it on the ride.
As a network of cylcing clubs, we hope that you can share our event with your membership via meetings, rides, facebook or websites. I'm happy to answer any questions you may have or send ride flyers if you'd like. Register online today!
