Ann Arbor Velo Club

The AAVC Mission

To develop cycling skills and fitness of our members and promote the sport of cycling in the greater Ann Arbor community.

The Ann Arbor Velo Club (AAVC) is a non-profit organization that started in the mid-70’s with about 30 road riders, and grew to become one of the largest cycling clubs in Michigan by the early 90's.

Today, AAVC is a multi-discipline club with riders from all walks of life. Our membership is as diverse as Ann Arbor itself, including many student riders, recreational riders, families, and youth. In our efforts to provide an inclusive, educational experience for local cyclists, we have organized weekly club rides at a variety of speeds, distances, and road surfaces. Cyclists from all backgrounds have found a welcoming, supportive community within AAVC.

As part of our mission to promote the sport of cycling, we have the following programs in place to make cycling even more accessible to our members:

- Loaner bikes

- Loaner club cycling jerseys

- Scholarships for up to $500

- Focus Race registration reimbursement

- A women's team with weekly training rides

- A juniors team with weekly training rides

We also have an online club message board where members can ask for and receive help with bike questions, talk race strategy, buy/sell gear, share routes and rides, and promote cycling events in the community.

The Ann Arbor Velo Club puts on events that are open to both members and the greater cycling community, and can be found on bikereg.com.com where there is additional registration.

- The Spring Training Series, focused on safe group riding and race skills, in April and May

- CX PreX, a cyclocross training program, in August

- THE WATERMOO, a 111 mile gravel race in August

- VETS PARK CX, a cyclocross race in October

- Free, multi-distance, gravel events through the summer: BLØM , PLEASANT LAKE RIDE, and WINNEWANA
